Hotel rooms in Paris are notoriously small and overpriced, and room rates for a standard room in the Montmartre area alone average 140€ per night (that’s about $185 USD). If you stay in a hotel in the center of the city, you can expect to pay considerably more for rooms just as tiny. Here’s the GOOD news: You can save money AND live more comfortably by staying in a fully furnished and equipped apartment, and at the same time experience a taste of what life is like for “the locals” here in beautiful Paris.

Walk to the nearby bakery (the top-rated bakery in all of Paris is here!) and sample a scrumptious pastry (we all know the French “do” pastries better than anyone!), then walk home with a fresh baguette tucked under your arm while nibbling a little piece of warm bread (that’s what we do!) Stop at a flower stall or buy some fresh cheese (did you know there are over 400 distinct types of cheese produced in France? It’s mind-boggling!) to eat with your baguette later. Peer into shop windows to see what’s for sale, or look at what the local artists are up to. And of course, you’ll want to take some time to relax on the terrasse of a corner café — whether summer or winter, spring or fall, Parisians can always be found sitting on the terrace with an espresso or chocolat chaud, watching the world go by! The French know how to balance work with pleasure, and always take the time to enjoy good food, good friends and good times. Isn’t that what life is all about?

Now is your chance to have the same experience.

Montmartre is located in the 18th of Paris’ 20 arrondissements in the north of the Right Bank. It is famous for the soaring white domes of the Sacre Coeur church, and for the many artists and creatives (both the well-known and the not-yet-known) who have found inspiration in these winding, picturesque streets. Picasso, Renoir, Satie, Dali, Berlioz, Utrillo, Dalida — these creative geniuses and many others all made their home here at one time or another; today, you can still find many artists’ studios and street artists in the quartier. Saint Denis was martyred here; during the Paris Commune of 1871, the citizens of Montmartre manned cannons used to protect Paris from an advancing German army. Famous cabarets and are here. History, art, wine, cabarets… and the ambiance of a small French village. That’s Montmartre.

Even while maintaining much of its original character, Montmartre is popular with visitors and Parisians alike, and boasts numerous restaurants, boutiques and attractions all year long — from the Fête des Vendanges (Wine Harvest Festival) each October, to the many art galleries and small museums, to the street entertainers on the steps of the Sacre Coeur, to unusual events of all kinds. Woody Allen’s wonderful Midnight in Paris was filmed here (in fact, we saw Woody himself directing Owen Wilson and Marion Cotillard in one scene near Sacre Coeur!) and scenes from the French film La Rafle (The Round-Up) were filmed at a historic location just across rue Durantin from our own Apartment in Montmartre.

And of course, fans of the film Le fabuleux destin d’Amélie Poulain will recognize many film locations in our neighborhood. The infamous Moulin Rouge and the steamy Place Pigalle are a short walk away, for those that want to experience a little of the sexier side of Paris. There’s always something fun and interesting happening here on the Butte de Montmartre, and here is your chance to find out what Montmartre has to offer while still being only minutes from the center of Paris and its many museums, monuments and stores that attract visitors the world over. Whether you prefer peace and quiet on your holiday, or crave lots of activity and night life, our Apartment in Montmartre provides you with a safe, comfortable and convenient “home base” while you’re here.
